Din Tai Fung Vancouver
Canada’s first Din Tai Fung has officially landed in Vancouver — and it’s every bit as impressive as expected. Spanning over 16,400 square feet with 311 seats, this highly anticipated location fills the second floor of 1132 Alberni St. Inspired by Chinese Zen gardens, the space blends rock gardens, lanterns, and meandering paths to create a refined and tranquil dining experience.
Our extensive millwork package brought this vision to life across every corner of the restaurant. Highlights include walnut veneer paneling with curved ceiling details in the vestibule and elevator lobby, a hidden tambour door, and integrated host elements. The bar and showcase dining areas feature a unique back bar design, open-frame upper cabinets with wire mesh, and oak ceiling panels that flow seamlessly down column faces. In the main dining room, a raised Zen garden anchors the space, surrounded by custom booth seating, oak dentil moldings, and continued walnut paneling.
Additional millwork includes a solid Iroko patio banquette, Asian-inspired powder-coated metal screens, curved metal-framed mirrors in the washrooms, and nine custom walnut-trimmed portals. We also provided service stations, mirrored wall niches, stone countertops, detailed upholstery work, and aluminum baseboards — all executed with precision, even accommodating design changes and hardware upgrades after installation.
Of course, no visit is complete without their legendary Xiao Long Bao — delicate soup dumplings with premium Kurobuta pork, folded 18 times by hand to achieve Din Tai Fung’s signature Golden Ratio.
